Interview: Natalie Pivoney

What inspired your interest in capturing these loved and worn homes and buildings?

I’m interested in the attachment people feel for places. I choose buildings and streets that remind me of the sense of “home” I felt as an undergrad in Carbondale, IL.

What has your experience with EIU’s Master’s program been like so far? How have you grown from day one?

I have become a better painter since starting the program and I have a clearer idea of what I’d like to pursue creatively. I’ve found quite a few contemporary artists that I can look up to for inspiration that I might not have discovered on my own. I’ve also gained some insight into how the “art world” works and the pros and cons of going for an MFA.

What is next for you in your career as an artist?

I’d like to pursue an MFA degree. I wouldn’t mind teaching, whether at a college, university, or even a community center.
